    Make a Gift Through Your Will or Living Trust

    One simple and flexible way to ensure that your legacy of empowerment continues for years to come is by making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a charitable bequest. You may share the suggested language below with your attorney:

    “I hereby give and bequeath ___% [or $_________] of my estate to Habitat for Humanity of Putnam (Federal Tax ID# ) to be used in the areas of greatest need as the board of directors may determine.”

    Create Your Free Will Online

    To help you get started on your plans and legacy, Habitat for Humanity of Putnam has partnered with FreeWill, an online tool that guides you through the process of creating a legally valid will or trust. It’s easy to use, accessible online and can be completed in 20 minutes. You can use this resource on its own or use it to document your wishes before finalizing your plans with an attorney.

    Non-probate Assets

    Do you have an IRA, 401(k), life-insurance policy, or any other assets not included in your will? If so, these are called non-probate assets and you must plan your beneficiaries for them separately. Use this online tool to make your plans and designate Habitat for Humanity of Putnam as a beneficiary of one or more of these assets.

  • Donating appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds is simple and provides you with immediate tax benefits. You not only receive a tax deduction based on the fair market value but also eliminate paying capital gains.

    Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer to Habitat for Humanity of Putnam. Giving a gift of publicly-traded stock may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock (subject to IRS deduction limits).

    How do I donate my car in Putnam County, GA?

    Start by calling us 706-991-1600. Our team will ask about your vehicle, including the make, model, vehicle identification number (VIN) and current mileage. When your vehicle is accepted, schedule a day and time for us to pick it up.

  • Qualified charitable distributions (QCD) from your retirement funds provide a smart, tax-advantaged strategy for individuals 70½ years or older to support Habitat for Humanity of Putnam. You (and a spouse) may gift up to $100,000 a year from your Roth or Traditional IRA. While the gift doesn’t receive a charitable deduction, the QCD counts towards your required minimum distribution (for those 72 years and older), thereby reducing your taxable income.
